Welcome To Dannevirke Signs

 

Did you know: That early this year our Welcome signs were classed by a tourist who photographed and published a book on NZ town welcome signs as one of the top three in the country.

 

Recently the local paper published a letter from an individual regarding the poor state of our Welcome To Dannevirke signs. Unbeknown to the individual and the general public, consultation was already underway between the Dannevirke Promotion and Development Society Inc, Tararua District Council, Host Lions, Rotary, Fantasy Cave, Dannevirke Chamber of Commerce, Dannevirke Community Board and the Dannevirke Art Society. It has since been formally agreed in principal at a recent meeting of the Dannevirke Promotion and Development Society Inc, to proceed with the development and upgrade of the Welcome To Dannevirke signs at the northern and southern entrances to Dannevirke's Offical Seal Dating Back to 1892town.

 

The entire sign at the northern end is to be moved to the vicinity of the Mangatera Car Park area. As the southern end sign involves less development it shall be upgraded first.

The development and upgrade includes a new old wall, yes you read that correctly. The new wall which shall replace the older concrete block wall at the southern end is to be constructed from recycled bricks. This is to give an overall appearance of an aged look, enabling this feature to appear as authentic as possible.
